Picturesque tiny houses built in the arches of the fortification wall.

 

Walking along Jirska street downhill, turn to the left and you come into the famous Golden Lane. It was built in the arches of the fortification wall and it´s all constituted by picturesque tiny houses. Most of them have its own interesting history. Even Franz Kafka had his study in No.22 . In the present days, most of the houses are used as original shops or galleries. On the west side, there is the White tower, a former torture chamber and a prison. Edward Kelly was one of the prisoners there. At the end of the lane you can see the Daliborka Tower. On the floor there is a round hole, where the prisoners were lowered under grand by the pulley. The first convict there was the legendary Dalibor z Kojozed. According to the tale he learned to play the violin in order to get food from people and survive.
